Facebook is ditching its 20% image ad text rule

According to reports, Facebook is removing its restrictions on ads which include more than 20% text in the main image/graphic.

Social media expert, Matt Navarra suggest Facebook are contacting advertisers directly to inform them on the change:

“…we will no longer penalize ads with higher amounts of image text in auctions and delivery.”

This will be music to the ears of advertisers and graphic designers who have battled with the restriction for years, making sure their ads are informative but comply within 20% text rule, which can lead to design compromise.

Over the years, Facebook has repeatedly suggested that users dislike ads with too much text in the image, so it’ restricted this to improve the general user experience.

The new update, however, reportedly removes any reach restriction for this, meaning that ads with more than 20% text in the main image will be displayed as normal and still reach the same amount of people as any other ad.
